Tillman Fertita, the owner of the Landry brand resturants, Golden Nugget in Los Vegas, and the Houston Rockets, has slowly been backing up what he had previously stated about Bitcoin. In 2017 Bitcoin told CNBC that Bitcoin was here to stay and while some people may have written him off at the time he has shown he was right. Since 2018, long before any one else was doing it, his luxury car dealership in Houston allowed individuals to purchase vehicles in Bitcoin. At the time Bitcoin was $6,000-$7,000 a piece and the vehicles being bought were Rolls Royces and Bentleys not cheap cars at all.
A week ago it was announced that the Landry's restaurants would begin allowing members of its Landry's Select Club program to redeem their points in the form of Bitcoin. The way it works out is that for every $250 USD that a person spent at a Landry's restaurant they would be able to claim $25 in Bitcoin. From what I have been able to find this is the first large scale 500+ restaurant chain to do something like this. With Landry's being a foundational block for Fertita's empire this was a huge huge thing.
Furthermore a few months ago his team the Rockets made headlines as they partnered with Socios.com for fan engagement help. Though no Fan Token's are currently being issued by the team. You can even go further back and in 2018 the Rocket's also had a partnership with Bitmain when they were the major sponsor for the Rockets during the 2017-2018 season. So the Rockets have had previous relationships with different crypto companies and yesterday they announced yet another one!
The NYDIG/Rockets partnership will have NYDIG become the Offical Bitcoin Services Partner and Bitcoin Platform. NYDIG will be paying for its partnership actually in Bitcoin as well further engraining crypto into the value of the Rockets. The two together will work on educational material and community incentives as well to work on spreading information about Bitcoin, crypto, and blockchain technology. Finally, NYDIG will serve as the crypto custodian for cryptocurrencies that the Rockets are paid in for goods!
What Tillman Fertita has pulled off has been rather amazing. He has slowly but surely marched along with having his businesses adapt and accept crypto payments and he deserves props for that. While other business leaders might make headlines for when they do it one of the original ones to do this is Mr. Fertita!
