I had begun to write this article a couple of weeks ago but due to writer's block never quite got around to finishing it. What it covers though is an interesting twist on the future of the internet and one that does have money and name power behind it. I hope you enjoy what I learned!

Shocker here but ChatGPT is all the rage still. Right now this is reminding me of the fall of FTX when it seemed that was all anyone was talking about. CNBC did something interesting though and went back to the credited inventor of the Web Sir Tim Berners-Lee and checked in with him. What I learned from listening and reading was pretty interesting as he like most of us does not like Web2 and wants to return it to its original version. By the sound of it though this original version is honestly sounding more and more like Web3 with the huge difference being it does not have a blockchain base. 

Sir Berners-Lee sees the issues with Web2 and honestly agrees with the common person that the current system is broken. His solution, one being offered by the company he helped co-found Inrupt, changes the current model to one that is privacy focused and often cuts out the middleman. Here is what the current model looks like and the privacy/security issues that it prevents.

To address the of data being at the end of the existing model and something that users have to sacrifice to utilize services Inrupt came up with a solution built upon an open protocol called Solid. In this solution data is stored in "pods" which are like a personal vault in the cloud and individuals have to grant a website or service access to their pod rather than it being something acquired by default. Inrupt's solution is as follows and allows users to take direct control over their data and who has access to what. 

Unlike with blockchain and crypto where an ecosystem is being built creating this space and not requiring large internet players to buy in Inrupts would require that. While I think that is the issue that will end up hampering this project there is one thing that their solution offers that I think is absolutely amazing. Because of the creation of pods and the way they are constructed personalized AI will be a normal thing. Users will be able to run their own AI which will be independent and not tampered with by outside forces as could happen with Alexa or Siri. In Sir Berners-Lee's eyes, he differs from many in his belief that blockchain will not play apart because it is to slow and not private enough. While I differ from him there I have to admit his AI idea would be remarkable and something I hope to one day see in my life!
