It has been a bit since we received a thorough update from the Harvest Dev team about the status of Harvest 3. That's not to say the project has been abandoned or turned into a ghost yard. Farms have been added and subtracted as time has gone on along with the social media accounts remaining active about developments. What was lacking though was a roadmap update or a large in-depth update about the project and the future. Well luckily for us this has now happened as we have new information and a time frame.
ETA?
As I mentioned we have a time frame for the whole rollout of Harvest 3! It is currently slated to go live during the second quarter of 2023 or sometime between April and June. In the update from roughly a week and a half ago 80% of the work was done with API work making up the remaining 20% needing to be finished. What I am more excited about though is that the Arbitrum chain is going to go live soon! Previously they had released a test/collaboration set of farms but those farms did not benefit from the iFARM or FARM token being rewarded. This is changing as the Arbitrum chain will be brought "in-house" or onto Harvest's main page and start receiving its native token's distribution!
What's New: The Basics
I am not sure that saying Harvest 3 will be a massive overhaul does the sheer number of changes and updates being made to the platform does it justice. Starting with some of the basic/to-be-expected updates/upgrades starts with a completely new user interface or UI for short. Below is a sneak peek they released on Twitter and honestly it looks like a whole new platform!
The UI will also benefit from having a day/night mode letting users either have a white or black background which I think is a really nice treat to add to the interface. Data and transparency will also be a huge theme with this release with key things being delivered like 1-year history charts for a farm’s APY, TVL & deposits for users to make smarter decisions, detailed breakdowns of the APY for increased transparency, portfolio page (something I am extremely excited to see), and finally advanced filters and categories for the farms. Currently, Devs are also working to implement ERC-4626 standards into the vaults adding to their transparency and better composing Harvest's farms for the rest of the DeFi ecosystem.
What's New: The Eye Catchers!
To be honest, the updates that I listed above and even the image of the new page view while fantastic to see are not what I would call eye-catching or something that could really boost usage by others. Don't worry though I saved the best updates for last because they will/are HUGE! First things first Harvest is going to integrate into Ledger allowing not only Harvest users to gain ease of use but also being integrated will drive more eyes to the platform!
Two more features really stick out to me for what they could do for the visibility of the app. Now the two partners, one for each of the features, have not been released yet what we have been told is that they are powerful/popular providers for their given feature. First up is Zaps implementation which will allow someone to contribute to a farm even if they do not have the pair or crypto needed. Users will be able to take their ETH and deposit it into the cvxCRV farm and via a third-party agitator like 1inch your crypto will be exchanged into the correct one and deposited. This eliminates additional steps and gas fees that users would otherwise have to pay so even if the rate isn't the best have the ability to let this service to it for you will be worth it to many.
Last but not least is the partnership with a web3 wallet aggregator that will now allow greater flexibility in what wallets will be able to connect with Harvest. Prior to this update, users were rather limited to needing a wallet with the WalletConnect function, MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or Binance Wallet. This aggregator will allow for greater flexibility for other popular wallets to be able to access the dApp. It also appears at least on my end that you can now connect your Ledger to the dApp a huge win, to say the least!
Final Thoughts
I look forward to seeing what else Harvest comes up with. They have said that the good 'ol FARM icon is going to get a facelift and actually have multiple variations something I am really interested to see! When they launch I am sure they will do so with a variety of new collaborations meaning Harvest will be getting its name out and hopefully go through another phase of growth!
