As a proud graduate, or as we say Former Student, of Texas A&M I was ecstatic to see that the University has been one of the latest large top-tier research universities to offer a class about Bitcoin. Texas A&M while not always thought of when people think of top-tier research is only of only 17 Land, Space, and Sea Grant Universities in the US. Not only that but being the largest University with a campus that is 26 square kilometers it has plenty of space to grow.
At one point a couple of years ago the Mays Business School which lies within A&M actually had the most Fortune 500 CEOs that were alumni than the Ivy Leagues and other colleges often thought of. Mays has consistently produced individuals who end up in very well-paying and high-ranking careers. A surprising point about this course addition at the Mays business school is that Texas A&M in general is considered a pretty conservative University so a course offered in Bitcoin is very unique. At the same time though with several A&M alum being involved directly with the recent fusion energy reaction that led to a net positive outcome of energy, it is a yin and yang thing where A&M shows both sides.
Texas A&M also being one of the largest schools in the nation with over 70,000 undergraduate and graduate level students located on the College Station campus I would expect to see this class easily fill up. This would then result in more and more offerings that would allow more and more people to get exposed to Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency industry overall. It could also lead to A&M possibly becoming an incubator for companies in this space as Austin, Texas a big-time tech hot spot is just a couple hours' drive away.
Hopefully, other Universities will follow in A&M's footsteps to offer courses in this space. This space does not currently have the best education path so with more and more colleges and universities offering it the likelihood of a successful learning path being created increases significantly. Making the space easier to understand and accessible will be key to future developments and deployments in the space something I cannot wait to see.
