In line with their Brave Road Map 2.0, the Brave Team has announced the acquisition of a privacy-focused search engine! While I have seen several articles about this acquisition being Brave taking its shot at Google I feel it is safe to say they have always been fighting Google. While they are a Chromium-based browser they operate in a way that is opposite of Google's Chrome. They have designed and built an entire web browser-centered around blocking tracking and cookies etc. which is far from what Chrome has done.

They have renamed it since the purchase to Brave Search but before it was acquired it was called Tailcat. Its whole design is based around allowing people to search for something without a profile being built for them whether they knew about it or not. I have never used the search engine before but I have tried to use DuckDuckGo and the results were poor at best. Due to the amount of research, I have had to do both in school and now in my field of work, I needed to go back to Google. Hopefully, this search engine is at least halfway competent and can surpass the low bar that DuckDuckGo has set. This would allow me to try and transition to this search engine. 

What I find particularly excited about this whole thing is this search engine will also be available on mobile devices! As an iOS user, I sadly lost the ability to gain BAT while using the browser but the privacy features are more than worth it to continue to use it! The amount of data it has saved me is pretty crazy and it's up over several gigabytes at this point! I cannot wait to see Brave continue to roll out the feature they have both told us about already and the possible surprises they could have in store for us!
