With Brave's newest release two new powerful features were added to Brave Wallet that I think further make using Brave Wallet a bit more enticing than it previously was. Over the last year, Brave has seemly focused on building out features like their Wallet and these updates further that idea. Here are the two newest updates
Overhaul of Sign-In With Ethereum (SIWE)
Since its launch, Brave Wallet has had basic support for SIWE but it was just basic support. With the update, they will implement an ABNF parser for ERC-4361 conformant messages. In layman's terms, this allows them (the wallet) to better interpret and display the messages. Improving the messages by default also helps improve security so that you understand what you are signing!
Another part of the overhaul is when the message is parsed Brave Wallet verifies the message for binding of domain, account, and chain ID fields, and if there is a mismatch will reject it and display a message informing you of this. The reason behind this is to help prevent phishing attacks since sign-in is almost the same as producing a signature for a message hence the susceptibility to spoofing.
CoW Swap
Before reading the Brave blog post I had no idea what Coincidence of Wants (CoW) was. It is an economic concept that relates to the barter system and describes a situation where two parties each hold an item the other wants so they trade the items directly. Now when you trade or swap assets on your Brave Wallet they leverage this and batch auctions as its price-finding mechanism enabling maximum liquidity while also tapping all available on-chain liquidity whenever needed.
Enabling and performing these batch auctions as this protocol facilitates the ability for all of the various intents or trades to take place in a single on-chain transaction. With not only saves on network fees but also helps maximize a trade surplus. Brave's team has even worked with the CoW Swap's engineering team to address a pretty consistent issue in the signing off-chain messages which is where a ton of scams take place. EIP-712 proposed a standard for signing structured data as opposed to bytestrings and created a message parser for CoW in order to be able to extract the relevant parameters and read them into a familiar way that is easy to understand. Below is what the before and after of this update will look like and by far makes this much easier to read and understand!
