When I saw the announcement yesterday from Brave that they were incorporating an A.I. feature into their Brave Search results I started choking on the water I was drinking. As someone who did a fellowship program last summer that was all about A.I. what my eyes were seeing did not make sense to my brain. Now I am by no means an A.I. expert but I can say with confidence I know a lot about it and it does tie into my neuroscience minor extremely well ao it was a little bamboozling to see privacy and A.I. being paired together.
Upon further examination, I realized that the A.I. addition while true was not really to the extent that immediately comes to mind. Brave's AI.. feature is extremely limited in what it can do and what it has access to. Unlike other A.I.'s that have made the news which requires users to engage and input data to function Brave's is limited to just one feature.
Summarizing.
It actually rolled out with their last update as well so you might not even have realized it was working in the background. When you use Brave Search now and the articles pop up those summaries are generated by this A.I. rather than being the first few lines of an article.
A feature like this instead of being worrisome is a really good addition to Brave itself. Privacy is easily going to be preserved and since it is so limited to just summarizing it is not something that I would worry about growing bigger and more powerful. The other way it also summarizes is if you type a question into the Brave Search bar.
This is another fantastic usage of A.I to answer questions and skip having to click on different web links for the answers. Cutting back on websites will enhance security for users by limiting what you could be exposed to. Even though the websites you click on are 99.99% of the time safe and secure there is always a chance and here Brave removes that vulnerability to users and keeps them safe!
It will be interesting to see if Brave tries to expand this or if they have issues with the rollout like the ones that have occurred in other A.I. rollouts. Given the limited nature of what it will do I think that this A.I. will be rather safe but with it still being new I would always double-check. At least until the technology gets a little more mature.
