It interested me when I shared the announcement from Brave with the people at r/Cryptocurrency and the reaction was swift and tough with people bashing away the news. At one point even the post had a crazy low 33% upvote ratio to really drive home the point. However, I think it is safe to say that the people over here are a little bit wiser and much more interested in articles than the average r/cryptocurrency user. All of that to say here is Brave's latest news and boy did it cause me to scratch my head!
To me, it does not seem all that long ago that Brave announced the integration of Ethereum Naming Service (ENS) and Unstoppable Domains so you can guess my surprise when I saw that those partnerships went live back in 2021! Safe to say as well that in the last two years, a ton of other things have changed overall as well. For starters, Brave really pivoted to the Solana Blockchain to build out in part because of the low transaction fees and the speed at which they are processed. While a lot has been made about the blockchain outages it has been some time since Solana has had a significant one. That is why the partnership that Brave announced with Bonfida to offer Solana Name Service domain resolution for the browser made a ton of sense.
Bonfida for those of you who do not know are the creators of Solana Name Service (SNS) and it functions much like the ENS and Unstoppable Domain NFTs function. Like the others, it is an identity system that combines usernames, Web domains, and email addresses all in one with the same simple and easy-to-read and share name that ENS and Unstoppable Domains offer as well. Integration with Brave is also already available across all Brave platforms from desktop, to iOS, and Android. Something that I think is important to note is that Bonfida has plans to expand the reach of SNS to other blockchains. This is something that is a lot easier than one would expect since Solana is EVM compatible which I am sure is what the Bonfida team plans on tapping into.
This addition fits perfectly into what we have come to expect when it comes to building out the Brave ecosystem. With the other pieces that have been put in place previously like the ENS and Unstoppable Domains, this helps fill out the branches in the tree so to speak. Over the next month or so I expect to see a couple of new things introduced or status released. These include an update or release of Brave Partnered NFTs and/or an announcement about further partnerships or deployment of BAT on other blockchains as 99% of BAT is still deployed on the Ethereum blockchain something the Brave team has talked about working on this year.
