South Street burger was founded in 2005 by Jay Gould, who successfully launched both Cultures Fresh Food and New York Fries.
I would classify them as a cut above Harvey's. On the website they pride themselves on fresh ingredients, no additives or preservatives, and beef that is 100% fresh and never frozen.

The customization factor is proved an unforeseen challenge for this blog. The rules are the signature or flag ship burger. South Street does not have one. Even though they do offer "signature burgers" they are more preset items than signatures. Their signature is really the custom experience.

Everyone's experience at South Street Burger will be different. To try mitigate the optionality I ordered the identical burger of my guest.
- This burger included:
- The standard bun
- A 5 oz Angus beef burger.
- pickles
- Lettuce
- Ketchup

The custom 5 oz burger costs $8.95.
How did it stack up?

My guest has an intolerance to lactose so the cheese category was disregarded. I do think that having a category missing helped South Street's score. I do not feel like their cheese selection would pull up the average.
I thought that the meat had a 'from frozen' flavor. Which is in stark contrast to the website.
The toppings were ok.
Somehow the ketchup was watery and cheap tasting.
South Street Burgers' custom 5 oz angus burger scored a -64.11.
A high absolute score showing good value, but next time I will just walk a bit further.
If you are in Toronto's down town core, and you are pressed for time this is a place where you can buy a burger. South Street Burger does not do anything particularly well or poorly. It simply is. There are better places to eat, but there are worse, I guess.
