Is Coinbase & Binance Warming up for $AMPL Listing?

By Chenhuang_defi | CanUHodl | 8 Dec 2020

Ampleforth (AMPL) – a unique cryptocurrency with an algorithmically adjusted elastic supply –  is one of the most interesting innovations to watch in DeFi right now.

If you haven’t already been following the project, now is the time to pay attention.

$AMPL was recently integrated into Publish0x and while many people claim that it's a house of cards because of its rebase event, what they’re failing to realize is that it’s still holding up well and has been live since mid-2019.

Ampleforth isn’t some fly-by-night project trying to scam people out of money. It’s a revolutionary new crypto-money, like Bitcoin, but with near-perfect supply elasticity, like fiat.

It’s created by a talented team with backgrounds in major tech companies like Google, Visa, and others; and it’s backed by notable investors including Brian Armstrong of Coinbase, Pantera Capital, True Ventures, and more.

Ampleforth has the potential to redefine decentralized money and is more important now than ever with the rise and adoption of stablecoins in the mainstream. In a way, Ampleforth (AMPL) can be compared to what Bitcoin was in 2009 – revolutionary new money built on sound economics.

That said, continue reading because I have some alpha insights for you.

Binance is Almost Ready to List $AMPL

How do I know?

Binance Academy recently published an article titled “Elastic Supply Tokens Explained” featuring Ampleforth (AMPL) as their primary example:

Binance wouldn’t just publish an article like this without reason. It’s Binance’s way to warm up the audience on a token’s listing and this time it could not be more obvious:

As seen in the screen capture above, the trading page for AMPL in pair with BTC has already been set up. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if AMPL gets listed on Binance in the next 24-48 hrs.

All the breadcrumbs have already been laid and I’ve presented them to you here in this alpha leak.

Do with this information what you will. Prepare accordingly.

Is Coinbase Next?

Unfortunately, I don’t have definitive proof like with Binance that AMPL is getting listed on Coinbase just yet. However, I do have strong reasons to believe that an AMPL listing on Coinbase will be coming next.

Let’s dive in.

The first connection I noticed when investigating breadcrumbs is that Brian Armstrong, the founder and CEO of Coinbase, has personally invested in Ampleforth (AMPL):

Now if you’re thinking… “so what, he’s probably invested in a lot of projects,” think again.

According to Crunchbase, Armstrong has only ever made two personal investments into cryptocurrency projects – DyDx and Ampleforth:

If you think that’s exciting, wait till you hear this!

Armstrong’s connection with Ampleforth goes deeper than a simple investment.

Upon looking at both the CEO of Coinbase Brian Armstrong’s and co-founder of Ampleforth Brandon Iles’ LinkedIn pages, you’ll see that they both attended Rice University to study the same course – at the same time:

That said, it’s pretty clear that Armstrong and Iles were undergrad buddies and something must have really got Armstrong’s juices flowing when Ampleforth was pitched to him by his friend.

Brian Armstrong Has Listed His Friend's Coins Before

If Coinbase lists AMPL, it wouldn’t be the first time the exchange lists a coin associated with a friend.

For example, back in August 2020, Coinbase listed Numerai, a cryptocurrency that is strongly advocated for and advised by Fred Ehrsam – who also happens to be a co-founder of Coinbase.

Ehrsam left Coinbase in early 2017 and was interested in Numerai as early as December 2016, just one month before he left Coinbase. Therefore, he must have certainly been invested in the project by this point and he’s currently listed as an advisor for the Numeraire project.

All in all, seeing as Armstrong and Iles go even farther back than him and Ehrsam and the fact that Armstrong has already personally invested in Ampleforth,  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Coinbase list AMPL.

So why hasn’t it happened already?

What Might be Holding Coinbase's Back to List $AMPL?

Regulations. Regulations. Regulations.

Coinbase is very careful about what they list and because AMPL is such a uniquely designed cryptocurrency with novel rebase mechanics, it will confuse the hell out of nearly all mom-and-pop Coinbase users who invest in it.

Just imagine the number of support tickets that will clog their system once the rebase hits and their customers have less AMPL than they had yesterday.

And let's not forget the issues with regulations. Coinbase will have to lay new legal frameworks with US authorities on assets that change their supplies...daily.

That said, while Binance will be listing AMPL very soon, we may have to wait a while for a Coinbase listing.
