Law enFORZA in the Italian Island of Sardinia is looking to over step their authority. They are saying they may be confiscating hemp they suspect to be cannabis with more than .03 THC present. Folks involved in the Sardinian hemp industry are pushing back saying this will destroy the chances of Sardinian Hemp making it to market.
Italians are no strangers to cannabis. Hemp was primarily used for pretty much everything going back to even the Roman times. Although China is most well known for the production hemp derived textiles, Italy historically had been one of the top hemp fabric makers, and is very well regarded in the history of hempen clothing. 16th century Italian Hemp is said to have been a product of unequalled quality, and unlike burlap or denim, was closer in feel to silk.
Sardinia is OTHERWISE said to be an easy place to get Cannabis for tourists, and possession charges only equate to a civil fine. The growing of >1% THC Cannabis is prohibited in Italy, however hemp is being grown with great success. Neighboring Sicily recently made available CBD oil to any body who needed it medically, and Italians are using far less over the counter pharmaceuticals such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Italian cannabis advocacy groups were quick to point out that hemp is not a narcotic and citied a hemp court case around cbd vapes as a legal precedent. The proposed and short sighted initiative would do more harm than good and advocates say that its HIGHtime The Sardinian Prosecutor gets the BOOT, as it were.
