Dogecoin mining might be your way to earning much more from cryptos. Bitcoin is still the world’s leading digital coin, but altcoins are catching up. Dogecoin is one of these crypto coins that more people are using nowadays. If you want to profit from this increased use, Dogecoin mining is the way to go.

What is Dogecoin?

Billy Markus, an Oregon programmer, came up with the concept for a kind of "joke" cryptocurrency. He reasoned that a more lighthearted coin, rather than Bitcoin, would have a greater chance of gaining mainstream acceptance. As the name implies, it is mainly based on the Doge meme that swept the Internet in 2013. It is one of the most popular cryptocurrency in the world right now. Tesla is even planning to accept Doge as payment method as stated in a tweet by Elon. Many even started to call Elon as DogeFather

According to It's official Website "Dogecoin is an open source peer-to-peer digital currency, favored by Shiba Inus worldwide"

Dogecoin is currently ranked at #6 with $0.488313 price on Coingecko. It's market capitalization have rose rapidly with the increase in it's popularity, from more than $1 billion in early January to $63 Billion as of writing. There are currently almost 130 Billion Doge in Circulating Supply.

How Hard Is It to Mine Dogecoin?

Before we get into the tutorial, you should know (if you don’t already) that mining DOGE isn’t what it used to be.

Just like every other crypto, Dogecoin has seen the rise of ASICs, or application-specific integrated circuits, which is a fancy way of saying devices built specifically for mining. Due to the introduction of ASICs which are more powerful than normal computing equipment, atleast for mining, has made mining Doge much harder for an individual who is using CPUs (computing processing units) and GPUs (graphics processing units) now have to compete with ASIC miners.

Due to all these changes in the way of Dogecoin mining over the past few years, if you try to mine Doge with your CPU or GPU it won't be worth it. But there is still a way that is by joining a Mining Pool.

Solo Mining vs Mining Pool vs Cloud Mining

-Solo mining is when a miner performs the mining operations alone without joining a pool. They keep any mining rewards for themselves.

-Mining pools are groups of miners that come together to combine their hashrate or mining power. By “pooling” together, mining pools have a higher overall hashrate, which means they have a higher chance of winning block rewards. As you would've guessed the profit are split between all the pool members.

-If you don't want to spend money on high end System, you could always pay for cloud mining. You could just rent a machine on any online website, be careful though and choose the website carefully.

What should be better for you? All the mining methods have their pros and cons, As i said mining alone with a CPU or GPU isn't worth it except if you had an ASIC miner. But even if you are joining a pool using ASIC miner would be much more worth it in terms of profit. Cloud mining is the best option for short term but can be very risky. So do all the possible research you can before Mining some Doge.

Requirements for Mining

1. A Dogecoin Wallet

You could create a Dogecoin wallet on this website. It is very easy i've personally used and it's very secure and fast either in receiving or sending Doge. It is available on any platform whether it is Windows, Android, IOS or Linux. Also make sure to save your secret code if you lose it you will never be able to access you account again.

If you want you could even get yourself a physical/hardware wallet that supports Dogecoin as an currency or asset. Of course it will cost you money. These are the ones i recommend.(LedgerTrezor)

2. Stable Internet Connection

You'll need a stable, fast and unlimited internet connection. Make sure you don't disconnect when you're mining.

3. Electrical Capacity

You need to make sure that your electrical supply can handle the Dogecoin mining. Also a cooling system to would be very useful as well so your system don't overheat, it is optional but recommended.

4. Mining Hardware

Whatever your preference will be either you're going to mine on a mobile phone or an ASIC(s) miner(recommended). You can mine with an PC as well with either a CPU or GPU but i have stated it will not be much profitable. You can go with cloud mining as well.

After deciding on your mining equipment, you can calculate your estimated profit here.

How to Mine Doge on CPU?

I don't recommend mining with CPU because it will not be profitable instead it can even damage your CPU but if you still want to mess around or want to feel or figure how dogecoin mining works the you can go and give it a try.

You can download this software called CPUMiner. Make sure to download the compatible version if i'm going to explain it's gonna take much time but you can look up for a quick tutorial on how to set up CPUMiner and a great thing is you can join different pool even when you're mining on this software. You can look for any Doge mining pool website which is suitable for you.

How to Mine Doge on GPU?

Well mining on CPU is barely possible but GPU mining is still viable if you have a powerful rig especially made for mining.

First set up a GPU mining rig or use any GPU you currently have. Then download the specific software, the ones which is most recommend to most people are CUDAMiner for Nvidia graphics card and CGMiner for AMD's graphic card.

For both the program you'll need the following:

-Stratum address and port number to connect to. (Stratum is a coin mining protocol, and you can think of a Stratum address as a website address. But instead of connecting to a website you’re connecting to a mining pool)

-Your worker name and password - created on mining pool site

-Your username for the mining pool site

To set up both of these software there is very good guide, here for CUDAMiner and CGMiner respectively.

How to mine Doge on Android?

Unfortunately, if you came this article looking for a way to mine Doge on your mobile phone there isn't a way. Phones are not powerful enough as of yet to mine Dogecoin.

What you can do is rent a cloud mining rig cloud mining is actually more profitable than mining with a CPU or GPU. Be careful though choose your rig carefully and website your going to use for cloud. There are free websites as well thought i don't recommend them most of them turns out to be scam but you don't need to do much work, you only need to signup with your address and it will automatically start mining Doge for you, when you reach minimum threshold withdraw your Doge from there whether your withdrawal will come or not that's a different thing.

But why? Seriously...Is it Profitable?

Mining Doge will heavily depend on your budget, effort, time and especially the mining option you choose. These are the ASIC mining days. While it is largely unprofitable nowdays the situation can turn around totally if the price goes up. Just imagine five year ago you mining Doge and just look at the price per coin today, you easily would've become rich :) In 2010, Bitcoin was worthless. Think about that! Though don't think that Doge will reach BTC price.

I know i could've wrote the article in much detailed and step by step way but i wanted to make it short as possible.

Thank you for reading till here, i hope you learned something new today and as always Happy Mining!
