Book Review: The Plant
by Paul Sating

To be fair, The Plant is more like a short story teaser written by the author to lure you into a post-apocalyptic world of monsters, government conspiracies and experiments, and mystery and intrigue. In a post World War II steel mill town, the government uses the able-bodied men as guinea pigs for various inoculations. While some died on the spot, others go crazy, and the rest who survive those first few hours are sent to survive in the den of a nightmarish monster, which frankly reminds me of a sandworm from Dune.
Patch, as the narrator affectionately is called, is an old homeless nobody on the outside. But, on the inside, he remembers what was done to him and his friends. And in this novella, he lets loose the secrets he held in for decades.
This was a wonderful first story from a then new author. Paul Sating has gone on to publish many books and series. The Plant reads like a part western, part alien, part sci-fi post apocalyptic genre. It sucks you in for the few chapters you spend together, and then leaves you wanting more.
If you do enjoy the read, then go off and purchase The Scales, the follow on book to The Plant.
The best part about the author and this book? It’s free on Amazon kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook’s e-readers. This way you can decide whether you want to spend the cash (or crypto 😊) on his works.
