Amidst a heated presidential election campaign in the United States gaining momentum, former President Donald Trump voiced his support for the cryptocurrency sector, highlighting, with some sarcasm, the differences on the subject between him and his rival, current President Joe Biden.
During an exclusive dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump was responding to questions from attendees, who were buyers of the NFTs from the Mugshot Edition series, launched in December 2023 and inspired by his impeachment.
At one point, the presidential candidate stated, as seen in a series of video clips shared on X by Frank Degods, a prominent figure in the NFT world, that "If you're in favor of cryptocurrencies, it's preferable to vote for Trump."
Furthermore, Trump also argued that the current President of the United States is not even capable of understanding what cryptocurrencies are and that the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States, along with the Democratic Party, are "very much against" these digital assets. He then added that he is in favor, suggesting that other cryptocurrency supporters should vote for him.

"If I asked Biden, 'Are you in favor or against cryptocurrencies?' [he would say] 'What are they?!?' (...) He has no clue. Instead [SEC chairman Gary] Gensler is very much against it, as are the Democrats. So I mean this: a lot of people, probably even in this group, are in favor and I'm with them. Of course, I want to make sure that crypto is good, solid, and everything else… but I'm in favor."
Frank Degods also questioned Trump on how he would intend to retain cryptocurrency businesses in America. In response, the former President admitted that these companies were leaving the country due to a regulatory environment hostile to cryptocurrencies and assured that he would intervene to stop this trend and ensure that they could remain in the United States.

Additionally, Donald Trump reassured his supporters from the crypto and NFT sphere about his dedication to allowing contributions in cryptocurrency to his campaign, emphasizing that he would ensure it is possible (even if it currently isn't), stating that:
"If it's not possible, I will make sure it becomes possible. Is it feasible to donate to the Trump campaign using cryptocurrencies? I am convinced that the answer is affirmative."
It is worth noting how, over the years, Trump has gradually changed his position on cryptocurrencies, transitioning from believing that "Bitcoin is a scam" to launching his NFT collection called Trump Digital Trading Cards, followed more recently by the aforementioned Mugshot Edition, ultimately arriving at a more friendly stance regarding payment with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
