Two Bitcoin Whales Woke Up After 14 Years

A multi-million dollar transaction originating on the Bitcoin network shows two addresses classified as whales, holding more than 1,000 BTC, transferring a total of 20,000 BTC, valued at more than $2 billion, to new wallets today, Friday, July 4.

The transactions, originating from addresses 12tLs9c9RsALt4ockxa1hB4iTCTSmxj2me and 1KbrSKrT3GeEruTuuYYUSQ35JwKbrAWJYm, involve coins that had not been moved since April 3, 2011, when the price of bitcoin was just 78 cents.

Below you can see how the assets of both directorates have evolved over time.

In addition, another older, but not inactive, whale moved 10,000 BTC, equivalent to $1 billion, bringing the total to 30,000 BTC moved so far today.

With the current price of BTC above $109,000, the two inactive whales have accumulated a profit of 140,000 times on their initial investment.

However, since the funds were not moved to addresses associated with exchanges, there is no evidence that these transfers were intended for an immediate sale, pointing to a possible asset reorganization or strategic preparations.

The simultaneous and similar movements of the two dormant addresses suggest they could belong to the same entity, such as an investor or organization, although this is unconfirmed. According to journalist Pete Rizzo, they could be addresses belonging to Bitcoiner Roger Ver.

This activity is part of a trend over the past year where Bitcoin addresses that had been inactive for years have begun to mobilize funds. For example, a whale reactivated a wallet after six years to send 1,000 BTC to the Coinbase Pro exchange, and a miner transferred 50 BTC to Binance from an address that had been inactive for 14 years.
