Ordinals Have Become Bigger Market than NFTs on Ethereum and Solana Combined

In the NFT space, Ordinals in Bitcoin have emerged as a larger market than the platforms of Ethereum, Solana and more than 15 networks combined.

The sales volume of tokens in the Ordinals protocol in Bitcoin reached more than 41 million dollars, in the last 24 hours, according to data from CryptoSlam.

In comparison, the purchase and sale of NFTs on the Ethereum networks (which usually leads this industry) and Solana together barely reached $25 million in the same period.

As can be seen in the following graph, the buying and selling of Ordinals tokens from the Bitcoin network exceeds the trading of networks such as Polygon, Cardano and Flow, among others.

Ordinals is a way to create NFTs on the Bitcoin network in which Digital objects are stored directly in the network's ledger, eliminating dependence on third-party servers and achieving truly permanent and unalterable NFTs.

It is worth clarifying that the Ordinals protocol not only allows the creation of non-fungible tokens, but also fungible tokens with the BRC-20 protocol. BRC-20 tokens can be compared to ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum network, but they have one important difference: BRC-20 tokens are issued as inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain, while ERC-20 tokens are issued on a smart contract.

This means that BRC-20 are counted as NFTs within the Ordinals protocol. This is due to the large volume of trade, compared to other networks.

In the following graph, you can see that the majority of the Ordinals are text (BRC-20 tokens are included here), while the number of images is very small.

The rise of Ordinals highlights the growing importance of this market, with OKX positioning itself as the leading exchange for the exchange of this type of tokens, as reports Dune Analitycs.

Regarding the total sales of Ordinals tokens in Bitcoin, so far in December, it has reached the figure of 527 million dollars, while last November it was 375 million dollars. That is, the trading of collectibles on that network increased 40%.

When observing the sale of NFTs on the Ethereum network, they have decreased 35%, going from 349 million in November to 226 million dollars so far in December.

On the other hand, sales on the Solana network, between last November and so far in December, had an increase of 118%, going from 82 million dollars to 179 million dollars.
