The ugly bi-product of being an early adopter

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 16 Sep 2023

I started fiddling with Bitcoin in 2013 and 2014, accumulated about half a Bitcoin, then lost everything due to a 'technical glitch' on the part of eToro.

Then I got involved with a crypto exchange between 2015 and 2016, started doing some side gigs for them, got paid in Bitcoin, and then lost everything again, this time due to a hack.

Between 2013 and 2016 I set up a variety of Bitcoin addresses and wallets, and I've spent the last few months trying to recover what I can.

So this is what I got now. I got a so-called 'legacy address' (the ones that start with 1), but I've no idea what platform, wallet or exchange that address is connected to. I got an encrypted file with the private keys to a Bitcoin wallet. But again no idea what type of wallet that might be. And then lastly, I got a Blockchain.com account to which I can't remember the password.

I got clues here and there, and memories. And the 1-address has around $200 of BTC in it so that'd be nice if I could recover it.

I should point out that all of that is happening because back then, very few people had a clear grasp of what they were doing.

It's the biproduct of being an early adopter, things were quite disorganized back then.

I guess the good news I learnt my lesson, the hard way, and after 2017, I've done everything by the book.
