Solana announced they'll start shipping Seeker, their new phone, on August 4.

Great, but now they've announced a new watch made in partnership with Franck Muller.

Two things I want to point out.

First, this isn't the first crypto watch.

A while back - a long time, actually - Franck Muller unveiled the Vanguard Encrypto collection, with watches that came with a QR code you can link to your BTC wallet.

This is kinda like that one, but for Solana.

The second thing I want to point out is that, this is my personal opinion, don't find this watch particularly attractive.

I like tonneau-shaped watches, and I like Franck Muller, just not this one.

But the main thing is, the timing seems off.

Every day we hear about IRL crypto attacks, ie people who hold crypto being physically attacked in order to force them to give up their crypto holdings using violence, not technology.

What crypto advocate Robert Breedlove once referred to as the 'five-dollar wrench attack', as in somebody buys a wrench for five dollar and use it to hit the crypto victim over the head and steal their crypto.

And every day we also hear about IRL attacks by people who want to steal your watch.

There are YouTube videos specifically suggesting what watches to wear to NOT get robbed in certain cities, and conversely there are videos telling which cities are just a no-go if you want to wear a nice watch.

So basically wearing this watch is like wearing a huge sign that says "attack me so you can steal both my watch and my crypto".

And sure, a lot of people would point out that this watch is probably intended for people who live in safe locations, like maybe Singapore or Dubai or Monaco.

I get it.

But the timing still seems a little odd.

By the way, it costs CHF20,000.
