Institutions are gunning for our money.
It seems to me the world is divided into two macro-groups.
On one side, you've got nearly lawless, disrupted countries where nothing works.
The upside, pure freedom. The downside, real-world chaos is no fun where it hits reality. It isn't a movie or a YouTube video.
On the other side, regulated countries.
The upside, most things more or less work to a relative degree, and you can prosper. The downside? It's very difficult to avoid being controlled from an entity above.
This applies to crypto as well.
I'm a citizen and resident of a country that must adhere to EEA regulations, which have gradually crept into everything. Proof of funds, KYC, and so and so forth.
It's constant.
They'd impose KYC for hot wallets if there was a way.
My only weapon is diversification. I use about 7-8 different crypto cards. I keep most of my crypto well away from exchanges, and then I occasionally use it to maximise value. Cashback, loans against my crypto. Stuff like it.
I like to think it's pretty much under my control, and so far it has been, but it's a constant, constant pain in the a*s.
Not a month goes by without one of said platforms asking for extra info. Some platforms basically no longer allow me to perform certain operations because of the idiotic 'travel rule'.
The problem with the travel rule is that sometimes it asks you to provide information regarding the sender, sender's identity, and sender's company's identity, which is stupid.
If I send funds from my hot wallet to my crypto exchange, who the fcuk is sender's company? Binance? Trust? Myself? It's a stupid question that only busybodies who regulate things they don't know anything about can ask.
Today, I got yet another message from one of these platforms asking to verify for the umpteenth time.
Another problem with these regulations is they're created for a world that no longer exists. They're asking for things that aren't always provided in today's world.
It's annoying.
So what's the answer? There's only one.
I provide what I can, if I can. If not, I'll keep using the other seven options and look for a new eight option. In other words, I do my best to make sure I don't need their business any more than they need mine.
Banks have been fcuking around with us for way too long, it's time to fight back, I reckon.
