I'm a small-time watch collector, I don't wish to sound immodest because the combined value of the watches I own probably doesn't match the value of a brand-new Rolex, but that's a different conversation. I've always loved watches, and for about two years, I've also been writing about them. I own some that I never wear, some that I wear often and some I sometimes wear.

The thing is, most watches are a liability, not an asset. Well, I guess it depends whether you include depreciation into your definition of liability, which I guess you should. If you buy a brand-new Rolex Submariner, which you can't do unless you have a well-oiled, long-standing relationship with your AD, it's not a liability, because it will appreciate in value. But what if you buy, say, a Seiko? Most Seikos don't depreciate too badly, and you can sell them reasonably fast, so is that a liability or an asset.

Either way, I've decided to get rid of most of my watches - and I already know it'll take time and patience - to increase my bitcoin position. That's because I'm constantly studying and trying to learn and the more I look into it, and the more I realise that bitcoin reaching $1m - sooner or later - is effectively inevitable - short of a black swan event or an unpredictable catastrophe. And while it is true that it is going to take around 100+ years to finally mine the last ever bitcoin, supply will continue to shrink as more whales buy bitcoin and as more people, for one reason or another, lose access to their funds.
