Exploring Revolut's Premium plan - wish me luck

By LeftFooted | bitcoinea | 13 Jan 2024

I'm exploring different options for my debit cards, after trying Wirex's Premium plan and Curve's premium plan (dubbed 'Black), I'm trying yet another premium plan.

Revolut's Premium, free for three months, than €9.99 per month.

This is what I get on paper:

  • reduced fees for buying and selling

This is pretty good. Revolut has extremely high fees, especially when it comes to certain things.

For example, when selling your crypto position, you're supposed to pay €1.49 or 1.49%, 'whichever's highest'.

This is a bit steep

By contrast, with Premium, the fee is 0.99%, which is not too bad.

Still pretty high, but better. Especially when it comes to smaller amounts.

  • Medical / travel insurance

This is a big deal to me. Last summer I had a bad accident that cost me dearly. It took a long time to recover and I had to pay for surgery on the spot, out of pocket.

Since then, I've been looking for various medical / travel insurance for a 'just in case' sort of situation.

On paper, Revolut's travel insurance is pretty good. You get a refund in case of unexpected expenses you might face in case of delay or cancellation (hotels, food, etc), a refund in case of unexpected medical and dental emergencies, etc.

I'm 100 percent certain it won't be as straightforward as it sounds, the fine print kills you with these things, but it's something.

  • Free subscriptions

This is a benefit I'm probably not gonna make the most of, for a number of reasons.

With Premium, you get a free subscription for: Deliveroo, NordVPN, Freeletics, Sleep Cycle, Tinder, Headspace and Picsart.

I'm not sure if Deliveroo delivers in my country, I'll double check, but I don't use the other apps except for NordVPN and Picsart.

The problem is, I've already paid for one year of Picsart Gold and I've already got a NordVPN that expires two years from now.

So personally, not a lot going on here for me. But in theory, it could be useful.

  • Miscellanea

As ever, you get lower fees and higher limits that really don't apply to me. I only use the cards for small daily purchases and those already come with zero fees. You also get a customised card. But I don't really car much about that either.
