CONGRESS 2022 Watch: Competitive Races

CONGRESS 2022 Watch: Competitive Races

By theinspired | Bitcoin & Politics | 28 Oct 2022

Note: I am not covering any third party candidates because we pretty much live in a duopoly and I find it hard to believe a third party candidate even has a shot at winning in the general. I welcome to opportunity to be WRONG!

Folks, the 2022 mid-term election is fast approaching and it is critical that you play your part in electing our next class of legislators. There are some key races that are very competitive and I believe the balance of power can be tilted by your vote; that's just how close these races are. In addition, there are some races that I believe will be some shockers even to those who keep their pulse on elections.

So let me cut to the chase and give you the bottom line up-front. I've got a strong feeling (or it's the pizza I ate last night) that Matthew Diemer might win OH-7. His ground game is on point and he's connecting with not only democratic voters but all voters in the 7th District. His endorsements continue to come fast and furious and last but not least, he love #Bitcoin. If you or anyone you know lives in that district please get the word out to vote for him and do it EARLY!

Okay with that out of the way, let's take a peak at some other races:

TX-30: This is a race that is near and dear to my heart because I grew up in that district. It's been heavy BLUE for the past 30 years and now that Eddie Bernice Johnson (EBJ) is no longer running, Jasmine Crockett is the heavy favorite but Dr. James Rodgers is making an attempt to do the impossible and turn that district Red. Colors aside, I believe Dr. Rodgers would do great things for TX-30 and he is going to need a massive surge of support. If you or anyone you know lives in this district again - give him your support and do it early! He too loves Bitcoin!

Before I dive back into the House races, Vox published an article on Sept 25th highlighting 10 races that could decide Senate control with GA, NV, and WI as having the closest races; PA is also just as close. Of these races the two that I am watching the most are AZ and OH - why? Because both have Bitcoin HODLers in Masters and Vance; who have seemed to have lost support from the GOP.  While Vance is fairing a bit better than Masters both are in jeopardy. While they support Bitcoin some of their other views are not as mainstream so I am not sure I'd support either if I lived in their district.

Senator Warnock (D-GA) is a Co-Sponsor of pending legislation S. 3867 Digital Asset Sanctions Compliance Enhancement Act of 2022 which is sponsored by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) who is also sponsoring S. 2943 Ransom Disclosure Act which directs the Department of Homeland Security to study the extent to which cryptocurrency has facilitated ransom payments. Rooting out bad actors is good so it is imperative that legislation like this is done properly to not allow the government broad reaching authority so keep an eye on these pieces of legislation.

NV: Cortez Masto (D) is nearly neck and neck with Adam Laxalt (R.) Other Senate races while close are leaning either one way or the other.

Now, let's look at some sizzling House races shall we? This was made possible by FiveThrityEight:

AK: It's a three way race in AK since they have rank-choice voting there. 3 candidates are pushing to win Special District 1: Incumbent Mary Peltola (D), Nicholas Begich III (R), and Sarah Palin(R) (remember that name?!) All of which are NOT #Bitcoin folks as far as I can tell. This will be an interesting race but with Murkowski endorsing Peltola, it's prob a good chance she will win. If you live in AK please reach out to her and talk to her or her staff about Bitcoin.

CA-22: This is a close one between, Rudy Salas Jr. (D) and Incumbent David Valadao (R) - neither have demonstrated that they are in tuned with Bitcoin.

KS-3: Incumbent Sharice Davids (D) and Amanda Adkins (R) - yup you guessed it - no clue about Bitcoin and if I am wrong please let me know.

MI-7: Incumbent Elissa Slotkin (D) and Tom Barrett (R) - Nope

NY-19: Josh Riley (D) and Marcus Molinaro (R) - Crickets

OR-5: Jamie McLeoon-Skinner (D) and Lori Chavez-Deremer (R) - Umm no.

PA-7: Incumbent Susan Wild (D) and Lisa Scheller (R) - Bueller, Bueller, Anyone, Anyone?

PA-8: Incumbent Matt Cartwright (D) and Jim Bognet (R) - Boring

PA-17: Christopher Deluzio (D) and Jeremy Shaffer (R) - No clue

RI-2: Allan Fung (R) and Seth Magaziner (D) - Anyone listening?

TX-15: Michelle Vallejo (D) and Monica De La Cruz (R) - this is getting old.

TX-34: Incumbent Vicente Gonzalez (D) and Mayra Flores (R) - hmmm

VA-2: Incumbent Elaine Luria (D) and Jennifer Kiggans (R) - oh brother

If you note that most of the incumbents that are in trouble are Democrats and if they lost, it will for sure cement the Republican's control of the house. As you can see folks, we have work to do - if you live in these districts or know someone who does - PLEASE for the love of God call, tweet, email these candidates and incumbents and share Bitcoin with them.

Now it is key to understand that there are outside influences happening from the Crypto world. Conservative political groups go on chain for bitcoin (TB) and Crypto is seeing broad bipartisan support in upcoming US midterm elections (BIC.) The PACS are pushing dolla dolla bills y'all into these campaigns and I hope it's not all for not. A lot of the candidates that were being supported by these pacs didn't advance to the general, will we see the same in the general?

Now once these candidates do advance they will be tasked with creating and voting on legislation that pertains to Crypto Assets so it is imperative that they be locked in on Cap Hill Crypto Legislative Tracker. This is an amazing website and resource for anyone in politics since it clearly lays out what legislation is being proposed and what it is all about. George S. Leonardo spent four years on Capitol Hill working for Senator John Cornyn before earning his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School, with a concentration in Business and Finance Law. It's not only a great resource for those in politics but also for you - so YOU can know what your lawmakers are working on and if you need to voice your opinion and thoughts about what might become LAW!

Fun Tidbit: Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is the most followed politician on Twitter with 8MM followers and she joined Twitter Aug 2008.

As time goes on I will edit, updated, and add more information as we get closer to the General Election on Nov 8, 2022 - If your district allows for early voting - I highly recommend it. If you don't know where to vote check this link.
