If Splinterlands has taught us anything, it's that there's a lot of potential in the gaming industry. However, unlike your usual Call of Duty type games, Splinterlands is a blockchain game that rewards players/investors with actual money.
The message from Splinterlands is pretty clear and in the years to come, I'm certain we're going to see traditional gaming companies moving over to the blockchain way of life. I mean, when you look at Splinterlands, Rabona, and other blockchain games, you'll understand why it is inevitable.
The top of the list is that the barriers are pretty much torn, thus enabling people from everywhere to access games. To give you an example, Nigeria isn't recognized on Playstation Network, so I had to use a random country for my registration.
Assuming the Playstation network was on a blockchain, there won't be a need for all that crap. Also, purchasing things in the game would be infinitely easier than it is now.
Right now, I don't think there's any blockchain Network big enough to absorb something as huge as Playstation Network but as the days go by and devs continue improving on the network, there will be networks.
Gaming and Crypto are friends
For now, there seems to be a lot of interest in creating financial tools with crypto at the center of it and I feel like when we focus too much on that aspect, we're not actually realising our true potential.I feel like we should be looking at absorbing not some but all industries because, well, why not?
When you think about it though, gaming and crypto were meant to be. In fact, it is safe to say that on the surface, gamers are kind of the same as most people in the land of crypto.
Gamers are already nerds that spend all their time in front of a screen and get emotionally attached to virtual things. Think about it, we're pretty much the same, so I suspect that the gaming industry will be the first to take crypto in its stride and be completely absorbed by blockchain technology.
Gamers aren't always techy but if you can figure out how to upgrade Kratos in God of War then I'm sure you'll know how to navigate platforms like SPlinterlands. Yeah, figuring out how your keys work might be a challenge but when you consider how difficult it is to crack those mysteries in God of War, then keys shouldn't be too hard either.
Hello crypto, have you met football?
When I read the story about how Lionel Messi's contract involved some sort of crypto payment, I wasn't the least bit surprised. I mean, he's not regarded as one of the most intelligent footballers for nothing. I'm pretty sure he has a fat crypto portfolio but that's a story for another day.
The story is that the PSG fan token surged to astronomical heights when the news about him joining PSG was official. The rise in the value of the token was obviously due to the excitement of his signing and well, I'd say it's warranted.
Fan tokens don't mean much in reality since clubs don't actually consider them when making decisions but at the same time, it's nice to see that the clubs are actually championing a crypto cause.
Anyway, other than PSG, a host of football institutions have some level of inclination towards cryptocurrency. Athletico, Juventus, Fernebache, and Real Madrid already have fan tokens. Arsenal has a deal with a crypto sports betting company and some clubs have literally rocked "Bitcoin" in the front of their jerseys.
It's inevitable
As the days go by, the interest will continue to rise and many institutions will see the immense benefits of moving part or all their books to crypto. The ease of access, and globally suited features make crypto adoption very attractive.
As institutions continue moving towards a crypto future, they will invariably onboard the masses. This will in turn push every blockchain to scale up its services to accommodate the incoming crowd.
So, in essence, developmental work should be at the center of activities on every blockchain. Anybody sitting on their laurels due to "pumps" is obviously missing out on the bigger picture.
When the penny drops and the masses finally want a boundless solution to their problems, they will look for blockchain-based solutions. The question is, will we be ready?
