When planning our last visit to Rottérdam, designed to enjoy the magnificent contemporary Dutch architecture, as well as to know the largest port in Europe, we could not miss the opportunity to know the hidden treasure, called Kinderdijk. It stands out on the map, for being the location of one of the main postcards of this small country, the 19 most famous mills in the world.

Although they were built in the mid-18th century, they still retain their original structure. Its purpose was to prevent flooding, keeping the area dry. In short, the essence of this country, in its struggle to keep the land dry, taking advantage of the water in its favor.

Once in the complex, you can sail by boat to enjoy the most distant mills, as well as visit the three museums, which allow you to understand their operation and importance. The interior of the museum transports you directly to the past, and surprises how to adapt the program of a house to the peculiar shape of a mill. The views of the complex that can be enjoyed from the windows are also noteworthy.
Personally, one of the things that impressed me the most was listening closely to the noise generated by its large blades when rotating, driven by the force of the wind.
It is important to know that it is easily accessible, both by private car and by public transport.
To conclude, it is a quiet visit with family or friends, which you cannot miss on a trip to Netherland.

Next, I leave you with the small video of our visit to this dream place.
