MetaMask, the popular fox-faced wallet, plans to integrate a new feature that will alert users to interactions with known scams. A new step forward by MetaMask to fight against scams of all kinds.
MetaMask on the march and fighting scams
Today, not a minute goes by without a crypto investor falling victim to a scam after signing a contract or a corrupted message. While the hardware to store one's cryptocurrencies is secure, the biggest weakness is usually between the device and the blockchain - you. Between contract permissions that allow funds to be siphoned from a wallet remotely, signatures that allow for digital identity theft, it's sometimes hard not to be taken in
In order to combat the growing number of scams of all kinds, MetaMask is currently working on a new feature that should warn you if you suspect a scam. For this, the wallet will rely on a database, a sort of blacklist, of the most common scams, shared between several platforms, including OpenSea.
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe, we are working with our friends at OpenSea and BlockAid on an experimental feature in MetaMask that will alert users when they are interacting with known scams.
When interacting with a malicious contract, MetaMask will warn users to prevent them from signing the transaction in question.

In parallel, BlockAid will analyse malicious behaviour on the blockchain such as abusive signatures or wallet siphoning. These joint efforts should help reduce the amount of theft by raising awareness with a clear message to users, which was not the case before.
After the latest airdrop rumours around the wallet, the development teams probably felt it necessary to step up the pace to protect their users. While some wallets like Rabby Wallet had already integrated this feature for several months, it's better late than never for MetaMask, which is trying to catch up.
