If you want an unforgettable journey, Portugal has some incredible hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Imagine a tour that combines history, nature, and an adrenaline-pumping suspension bridge that would make for an adventure movie!

In the town of Condeixa, just a short drive from Coimbra, lies one of the most stunning landscapes in Portugal. But the best part? It's even more accessible now, thanks to the new wooden paths that take visitors to a true hidden treasure.

Since 2023, visitors to the ruins of Conimbriga - a tourist attraction near Coimbra believed to date back to the Neolithic period - and the Mavros River cascade have had easier access, thanks to the newly constructed wooden footpaths that link these attractions together. These footpaths follow the riverbanks, creating a seamless connection between one of Portugal's natural heritage sites and the nearby suspension bridge leading to the ruins.

Before the installation of the new footpaths, the area around the Mavros River was only accessible to people with good physical fitness. However, thanks to the construction of these paths, anyone can now enjoy the beauty of this natural landscape.

The new footpaths are built along both banks of the river and are interspersed with packed earth areas. This structure, created along the Mavros' banks, provides a unique experience for visitors. The goal of the project is to promote this natural wonder and make it accessible to everyone.

If you are curious, the route starts at the ruins of Conimbriga, which are one of the best-preserved Roman remains in Portugal. From there, you can explore the area through time, passing by mosaics and thermal springs before reaching the natural trails.

Along the way, you will notice how the vegetation becomes thicker and the sound of running water becomes more prominent, leading to an unforgettable natural experience.

Halfway through the journey, a panoramic platform offers a relaxing spot to admire the valley of the Mavros River. However, the real excitement awaits at the end: a suspension bridge that spans the stream and offers the best views of the imposing waterfall that lies beyond. The scenery is so breathtaking that some say it looks like it could be straight out of an Indiana Jones film.

If you're up for an even more challenging experience, there's a 23.5-kilometer trail connecting Conimbriga and Buracas do Casmilo, where small caves have developed horizontally, with entrances reaching up to 10 meters - but this is only for the most prepared of tourists.
