Fast Bridging For Artists, Developers, Anons And Degens! Across Protocol Is Helping Everyone!

By ArtistByron | ArtistByron | 5 Dec 2024

I am sure you didn't expect your favorite zombie artist to drop this amazing article about Across Protocol but this is how I roll! Byron is always unpredictable! I am a Canadian artist living, creating mostly horror art. I was shoved hard into crypto early 2021 and I still draw and paint horror themed stuff.

Diving into crypto a bold move! I went into the unknown and tried to learn everything as fast as possible. I started on the WAX blockchain, then expanded on Ethereum chains, Solana and now working hard on the Cosmos ecosystem. I even created my own memecoin, the $DHC token!

Most memecoins community are built around the coin, but in the case of $DHC, the community was built first. DHC stands for Da Horde's Coin, and was originally created as a way to give back to the community. I've been an artist who has been a creator even before entering the crypto scene. Check my work if you're into art and NFTs

What about Across? I am an artist that sells art on the blockchain, and I often need to move money "across" chains, and you already know which is the best bridge to do that! Across Protocol is powered by UMA, and the Optimistic Oracle acts as a trust-minimized mechanism to validate transactions and resolve disputes within the protocol.

The Optimistic Oracle allows the system to operate efficiently by assuming most participants act honestly. Relayers and other participants can propose transaction data or state changes, which are accepted unless explicitly challenged within a predefined dispute window. This optimistic approach minimizes overhead, reduces costs, and accelerates cross-chain transactions while maintaining a robust security framework.

By leveraging UMA's infrastructure, Across Protocol achieves fast, secure, and decentralized token bridging, aligning with UMA’s mission to create universal, permissionless financial tools.

I am not a tech guy but Across is so simple to understand! I've been a community member since day one, using the bridge to move crypto from one chain to another. The decentralized protocol is designed for efficient and secure transfers of tokens across different blockchains. It plays a significant role in the scaling the ecosystem by enabling fast and low-cost token transfers, especially between Ethereum mainnet and many layer2 chains.

Across has developed a powerful, Intents-driven solution designed to complete select L2-to-L2 transfers in as little as 3 seconds for transactions under $10,000—covering 99% of all L2 bridging activity. This unparalleled speed and reliability make it a game-changer for both seasoned crypto users and newcomers alike, setting a new standard for seamless blockchain interoperability.

The upcoming ERC-7683 standard, co-authored by Uniswap Labs and Across Protocol, aims to unify the Ethereum ecosystem by introducing a standardized way to express cross-chain interactions as Intents. These Intents represent user-declared actions, such as transferring tokens, executing smart contract functions, or swapping assets, designed to operate seamlessly across multiple networks.

By establishing a universal framework, ERC-7683 simplifies how protocols, wallets, and dApps interact with one another, ensuring consistent communication and reducing the complexity of cross-chain operations. This standard not only strengthens interoperability within the Ethereum ecosystem but also enhances efficiency for developers by eliminating the need for custom solutions for each network or protocol.

For users, ERC-7683 promises a smoother, more intuitive cross-chain experience with greater reliability and reduced friction. I had to celebrate this innovation with a carved pumpkin!

How Intents Work? Intents are declarations of action within the Across Protocol system, primarily used to initiate and facilitate bridging operations. Here's how they function:

  • User Declaration: the user declares an intent by signing a transaction to bridge tokens from one network to another. The intent specifies the amount of tokens, source chain, destination chain, and the recipient address.

  • Relayer Network: Once the intent is broadcast, relayers in the Across network pick up the request. Relayers serve as intermediaries that facilitate the token transfer by fulfilling the user's intent.

  • Optimistic Validation: The protocol uses an Optimistic design, meaning intents are fulfilled under the assumption that relayers act honestly. Any fraudulent or incorrect fulfillment can be challenged within a predefined dispute window.

  • Liquidity Providers:  Liquidity providers play a crucial role by supplying the tokens needed to fulfill intents quickly. These providers earn fees in return for offering liquidity and enabling the bridging process.

  • Settlement: After a relayer fulfills the user’s intent on the destination chain, the transaction is later reconciled on the source chain, ensuring that the relayer is reimbursed and that the protocol's state remains consistent.

The Intent system offers significant benefits that make Across Protocol an attractive solution for bridging assets. By decoupling the user's action from the relayer's execution, it enhances efficiency, enabling faster and smoother bridging. Its decentralized design aligns incentives among users, relayers, and liquidity providers, ensuring trustless and secure operations.

Additionally, the system provides flexibility by allowing users to specify custom bridging parameters, giving them greater control over their transactions. This combination of speed, decentralization, and adaptability positions Across Protocol as a preferred choice for users seeking fast and secure asset transfers within the Ethereum and Layer 2 ecosystems.

I must talk about the $ACX token, the native utility and governance token of the Across Protocol. The token is serving as a fundamental component of its operations and ecosystem and it enables decentralized governance by allowing token holders to participate in decision-making through a DAO.

Additionally, ACX tokens are used to incentivize participants, including liquidity providers, relayers, and stakers, rewarding them for their contributions to the protocol’s efficiency and security. By staking ACX, users help secure the protocol while aligning their interests with its long-term success, often earning additional rewards in return.

The token also facilitates value distribution by allowing holders to share in the fees generated by the protocol, ensuring that the ecosystem remains robust, user-driven, and sustainable over time. All the perks from above made me hold $ACX since early days, staking it for maximal efficiency!

Let me wrap it up with an answer to the big question! I know what you're probably thinking .. wtf is a zombie artist? I'm the kind of guy that tries to make everything a little bit zombie, from fruits and vegetables to people and pets. I've been doing it for over 15 years and have been interviewed by Forbes and a TV Station.

My work hangs in the homes of fans across the world and I've shipped all the way to Australia, Germany, France, the USA and of course Canada too. Let me know if you want a pet portrait!
