Recovering and Creating DIY

Hello friends, I hope you are having a nice day. Lately, I find myself saving every piece of paper, cardboard, and office material that I should throw away to give it a new opportunity, a second life. Additionally, I am thinking of starting to create recycled paper after watching some tutorials on YouTube that caught my attention.

For this occasion, I decided to take two pieces of cardboard that I had previously used to create sheets and bring them to life as small bookmarks for my books. The area of the cardboards was approximately 10 square cm, which made them quite small.

Materials and Tools

  • Scissors
  • Reused cardboard or cardstock
  • Pencils, pens, and markers

Ideas and Action

Practically anything can be a bookmark; the important thing is that it does not damage the pages of our books and, as a plus, that it looks very nice.

For the first one, I decided to create a line drawing of a small ghost reading a book. I made a quick sketch following some references, first in pencil and then I traced each line with a black pen. Honestly, I am very happy with the final result; it looks very kawaii and mysterious. Since I don’t want it to get lost within the pages of my books, I decided to use a small pink clip to attach it to the top. I decided to deform the clip to give it a better grip and make it look less common. I love the final result, I don’t know about you.

For the second idea, I wanted to innovate a bit more, and of course, the bookmark itself should attach to the pages so I wouldn’t have to use a clip. And since there’s nothing better than a good book and tea, or nothing more relaxing than a good read, that was the choice: a small citrus tea bag with its label. The upper part, from the string of the bag to the label, will be responsible for marking the page. The material of the cardboard was quite absorbent, so I couldn’t get the effect I wanted, so I decided to do it in a more sketchy and rustic style. I ended up adding some colors with office markers.

Honestly, all the processes to make this type of bookmark are very simple and do not require much explanation. Just take that piece of cardboard you are going to throw away, make a nice drawing, cut it out, and decide how it will attach to your book. The important thing is that it is yours and has a bit of your personality. I invite you to make your own and share them with our community. Best regards!
