Electronic musician TrippyB3ats immediately followed up their groundbreaking debut Hieratic Passe with their second EP titled Wisewoman on May 24th, 2022. This one is comprised of 6 brand new tracks this time, and I'm back to rate them each on a scale of 10, and then give you an overall score for the album.
Without further ado, here is the song by song breakdown for Wisewoman:
1. Wisewoman - 5/10
The title track is not a great start to this release. It comes off as very meandering and pointless. Feel free to listen for yourself here!
2. Holophotal - 10/10
This one is, I believe, the entire reason for this EP's existence. It's such a smooth song with a very solid beat and just well structured all around. It is easily the best song on this release and is in the running for the best song ever released by TrippyB3ats. Go ahead and listen for yourself here!
3. Competitions Contest - 5/10
Another dud. This one also feels pointless and meanders around without meaning until it ends. Not a good follow up to the solid track before it. Listen for yourself here!
4. Nubilate Fuliginosity - 6/10
Much like its name, this one at least feels different from the rest, but it's ultimately not good enough for me to give it more than a 6. Feel free to listen and decide for yourself here!
5. Fundamentalist Devoutful - 5/10
This one is easy to forget, despite the pretentious name. It also feels pointless and I'm not sure why it was included on this release other than to fill out the track list. Listen for yourself here!
6. Brilliance - 6/10
This one has another nice rain effect and decent beat but it's overall a bit too boring to remember. It seems like Trippy was trying to recreate the brooding close to Hieratic Passe with this track but it just doesn't work as well a second time. Go ahead and take a listen for yourself here!
Overall, I would give this EP a 6.2/10, which is a pretty big drop from the first release. Aside from the brilliant Holophotal, this EP feels like mostly filler tracks, and I'm unsure why Trippy decided to release it as an EP rather than just releasing Holophotal as a single or saving it for a more fleshed out release.
