Our history is full of examples when a person invented a new way of transmitting this or that information, and censorship came on the heels of improvement, trying to limit this very transmission of information.
The very first writings appeared between the Tigris and Euphrates in the 4th century BC. e.. Letters were squeezed out on clay tablets and knocked out on the surfaces of stones. Accordingly, at the same time, educational institutions and bodies of control and control both over them and over the recorded information arose. At that time, censorship consisted in the fact that the names of rulers and defeated kings were removed from the surface of the tablets with letters. It was believed that a forgotten name in history harms the afterlife. In addition, "objectionable" reliefs and statues were also destroyed.
A little later, even the philosopher Plato was one of the first to justify the need for censorship. For example, in the dialogue "The State" he talked about "protecting children from harmful information." Well, actually, even the term “censorship” itself appeared in the 5th century BC. in Ancient Rome.
With the invention of the printing press, a new round of development of culture and science began. Poor people in their own countries were given the opportunity to read the Bible translated into their own language from Latin. And of course, the Catholic Church becomes the main censor of that time. She began to fight with objectionable literature with even greater fury.
In our time, the mass media have appeared. Radio and television are able to simultaneously disseminate information to any part of the world. The authorities of every country where radio and television appeared began to increase their control over the promising media. After all, all the power and authority belongs to the one who owns the information. Well, a few decades ago, the era of the formation of the Internet began. Initially, the network was conceived as decentralized in case of a nuclear war. But with the development of engineering and computer technologies, now most of us cannot imagine ourselves without the Internet, social networks, various blogs and interactive media.
But more and more, governments and Internet corporations around the world have begun to intervene and try to control the flow of information that spreads through the network. Any traffic began to be filtered and censored using artificial intelligence systems. For the distribution of "unauthorized" content began to introduce harsh penalties. Every day, pages on social networks and websites are blocked in the world. And these are not isolated cases. Censorship on the network has reached such a point that people receive fines and real terms for their statements and beliefs.
Many Internet resources also have their own censorship, when moderators, according to the internal rules of the site, block unwanted content. Of course, such content as propaganda of terrorism, pornography, incitement to racial hatred, and fraud must be controlled. However, more and more often, content that is not related to the above features also falls under censorship.
For example. An ad for Calvin Klein jeans starring Brooke Shields. The ad read, “Do you want to know what's between me and my jeans? Nothing". Brooke's words had the effect of a bombshell. At that time she was 15 years old and Calvin Klein was accused of promoting child pornography. And this collection of jeans was withdrawn from sale.
It turns out that censorship has always existed. It goes hand in hand with the information we communicate. Do we have the opportunity in the modern world to get rid of at least somewhere from a small amount of censorship? And let's remember and return to the very idea of the Internet. At the very beginning of its path and development, the Internet was decentralized, i.e. there was no system of control from any side, whether it be the state, governments or corporations with almost unlimited power.
Solcial is a social network where all content moderation rights are given to the community. Where there will be no dependence on the part of the authorities or the company that developed this product. It turns out that the network will be much more resistant to censorship than all those that exist today. Let's just remember one thing, that in some cases it is very difficult to draw a line between prohibited and permitted content. That's what moderation is for.
