I can't believe how many people out there looking to scam money from you!
Earlier today, I saw some messages about many crypto wallets being hacked and money stolen recently. I hadn't logged into one of my online wallet for few days. After seeing that message, to be sure that my money is still safe, I turned on my computer and tried to log into my account.
When I tried to access to my account, I was given the option of either creating a new account or recovering an existing one. I have 24 words that I thought I would use to recover my account. But after several times of failed attempts, I became panic! Wasn't sure what had happened, and given what I heard about the stolen wallet, I told myself, probably I became one of the victim unknowingly!
I didn't give up. I went to the website and found community support info and joined telegram of that exchange protocol. I texted the message and asked for help in the channel... Guess what, in few minutes, I received direct messages from more than 10 strangers, asking me if my problem has solved or not. Some said they encountered the same problem few days ago, some asked me to send snapshot of the error message, some even introduced themselves as tech support of the protocol. They all sounded phishy. Unbelievable how many people are out there trying to steal money from you.
The ending of my story: I tried few more times again, and started to look at the 24 words I wrote down word by word, and check if there could be similar words to them since my handwriting wan't that good. And I found the "secret" word! It's the first word of the 24 that I messed up. After I corrected the spelling, I was able to log in into my account successfully. A happy ending, no money lost! But good lessons learned!
1- Crypto is too much responsibility if you can't keep your account safe.
2- Don't go to public channel to ask for help. You may become target of scammers!
3- Be careful of direct message from strangers.
