Off-The-Beaten-Path Manaslu Circuit: Day 4

By pSub | Adventures Around the World | 18 Mar 2020

« Previous Day

Our second day on the Manaslu Circuit. Usually we hike between five to eight hours a day. The second day is with about eight hours one of the longer days. Today we walk along many little farms that try to farm on the hillsides. Everything that does not need to be carried up the valley is good for the locals. Therefore you will likely eat foot grown in the valley. Cabbage

By the way. We did not carry all our luggage by ourselves. When you are trekking Nepal it is common to hire porters who carry most of the luggage for you. Some of the porters are withdrawn into themselves but others like really to chat. The porters are doing an amazing job, carrying the luggage of two people.

We passed by a beautiful village that is located at a hot spring. In this part of the valley houses are often painted in bright colors. We had lunch in this village and watched the locales doing dishes in the hot spring.

Regained we started into the second half of the day. Not long after lunch we saw the first monkey of the trek. Soon after the monkey I noticed a chameleon right next to me in the bushes.

In the narrow parts of the valley the river is loud and fast. I am not sure if I want to be there in the Monsun season. During the Monsun water has to be everywhere and the river has to be violent. While walking close to the water at a narrow part I saw this huge boulder formed by the water.

Most of the mules that carry goods to the villages in the valley are in a good shape. Some of them even wear artful harnesses.

We saw another monkey. It is hard to take pictures of them, because they are elusive and often far away.

At another narrow passage I noticed that boulder. It is washed out like a mussel. Maybe from other smaller stones that carved the boulder over many years. Looking at such things you get a notion of how powerful the elements are.

After that last narrow passage the valley opened for a while and left us with this stunning view.

In the picture above you see a grey line on the bottom right. That is the bridge in the picture below. This is a new bridge that was build by the Swiss to establish a safe route over the wide riverbed.
