3 Ways By Which Football Clubs Can Cut Their Losses

By _TrustSid | A United World | 16 Jun 2020

Don't you guys just wish for the football season to resume? I don't know about you lot, but I surely do. Every single day! And I bet that investors and owners of football clubs do the same. I mean just think about it. These people pay thousands of pounds to players every week. And with no matches being held, there is zero cash being generated within clubs. The graphs all over the world aren't looking great but you must feel so much worse if you own a football club right about now. So, in this blog, we take a look at the three ways in which clubs can cut losses and manage cash efficiently.

OWNERS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

C'mon now, owners are very rich people. They invest billions of dollars in projects. They own mansions overlooking the sea. And Not to mention their private yachts parked across the bay. That life doesn't come without having a few hundred million in your personal bank account. I understand that the market is very bearish, but do you really need billions to live off on? Owners should be asked to dip their hands into their private wealth. They need to support the club during these tough times. I understand that smaller clubs like Brighton or Norwich don't have relatively rich owners. But again, the wage bills for such clubs aren't anywhere close to that of teams like Manchester City or Arsenal. It's going to be difficult but something needs to be done to ensure that clubs don't spiral into losses.

PLAYERS TAKE A WAGE-CUT

Few people are going to like this one. I personally don't support it. Because cutting wages would result in a significant loss for the government's treasury. A figure close to £1bn is earned by the UK government through Premier League Player taxes. And even a small cut of about 20% would result in the government losing well over £400m. This kind of money is crucial for the government. They need all the help they can get to fight the battle against Coronavirus. But this is also one way through which Clubs can cut losses. This might not be the most rational approach. But I know for a fact that business-minded, filthy-rich Club Owners would prefer this over the collapse of their own wealth. Unless things become super-awful, this proposition shouldn't even be considered. But it's a proposition nonetheless.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE MUST PITCH IN

Before the Coronavirus outbreak, The Premier League alone was worth more than £7bn. This is not a Paper Brand. And even after the virus outbreak, Transfermarkt evaluates the league to be just over £5bn. I'm sure there must be some kind of way where the league can help clubs facing financial repercussions. It would seem almost cynical if they don't. Poor clubs need help and this help must surely come from the Premier League. A fixed amount of money can be allocated by the League to clubs facing economic hardships. The club then may use this money to pay wages or boost player recruitments. The league can also advise clubs on economic matters and help save them from further financial losses.

It's not only the Premier League but everywhere that people are facing economic adversity. Charities and NGO's are doing their best to support people, but it's not easy. We need to understand the magnitude of this calamity and do our best to help. Let's start by staying at home. Only make your excursions to places that are critical. Let's all pray for one another and hope to get through this as fast as possible. If Cornavirus has done anything then it's only made us stronger. Stay home and Stay Safe :)
