If you are an old user of Hive, you must be aware of the decentralized system functions that runs hive and about its witnesses and DHF aka Decentralized Hive Fund. For those who who doesn't know about it, let me explain it in basic language. Hive is a blockchain that runs in a decentralized manner by a number of top 30 witnesses also called node operators who gives the power together to run the blockchain and ensure the rightfully behaviour of the blockchain. These top 30 witnesses are chosen by the votes of the blockchain users like you and I and that’s how the blockchain runs on a social level. The node operators or witnesses on hive are also responsible for making consensus decisions for the future development of Hive blockchain. Anyway, Every user on hive chain has given a total of 30 witnesses votes to choose from the list. Anyone wise enough is welcome be enroll himself in the witness Program but the top 30 can be only chosen by the people of the chain by the voting mechanism so a decentralized governance system satisfies here truly and the voting power however depends upon the Hive power of an user and the witness that gets the highest total voting power gets to the top place and so on. So that’s the basics of what is witness on Hive and at below, I will show at below that how all of you can vote for your favourite witness easily with a few clicks.
In order to go to the witness list, just open peakd.com and and after logging in, you will be seeing your profile Picture and name at the right upper side, click on the name and the below window will open.
In the vertical bar, you can see the ‘witnesses’ button at the below of the tab, click here. After clicking as mentioned above, you will see a newly opened windows of the top witnesses currently active in Hive blockchain and controlling the chain and may see some familiar names as well like I did.
Anyway, in that window, you can see a right tick sign at the horizontally at the end of each witnesses line. When you vote any of them, the tick sign will turn into blue which is an indicator that you are currently voting him. You can choose maximum 30 votes and you can anytime stop voting anyone and cast new votes while maintaining the maximum limit. The in detailed list will also show certain information of a witness like last produced block, total current votes and current version etc.
You can also search your witness by simply searching by using the option at right side just like I did here and typed town-hall and instantly got him in the results. For those who aren’t aware of the name here, I will be talking about it in a bit. So that is how you access and manage your witness votes and I hope you use your witness votes carefully and wisely so that the power goes into the right and deserving hands. At the screenshot above, you can see some well known persona at Hive blockchain like @stoodkev is the lead developer of Hive keychain and currently working upon more developments projects or another popular figure Yabapmatt who is after all, the godfather of splinterlands and currently running it solo.
You need to also check for voted witnesses time to time if they are actively working or not and un-vote if required. For an example, here is one witness aggroed at no 34, whom I voted for long but is currently inactive and not contributing in the node run. So, I removed the vote from him and gave it to a New witness that I recently got to know about through @anomadsoul.
Yes I am talking about the @town-hall created by 4 popular entities deeply rooted within InLeo and Hive community, @anomadsoul, @taskmaster4450, @jongolson and @l337m45732 and town hall is a community-based witness project that has a goal of making hive a better place for both old and new users. The witness account from the makers of inleo.io aka Leofinance makers is finally here and if you a using their short form platform Leothreads or post and engage on long form contents in the hive chain, I would Ask you consider voting them as a witness if you are known of their contribution and future vision about Hive. As a project, they are currently focusing their strength on doing outreach and promoting the blockchain on X aka Twitter. They have also collaborated with zealy to launch am onboard campaign series which is currently live as well.
So overall, as this project is working very strongly to satisfy old users while onboarding new users to this amazing web3 platform, I think they are worthy of a vote so I voted them last day and wish them all the best!
