Today'sTopic - relationships

By Zatrig | Zatrig | 8 Dec 2020

So here I come with the new topic, even though I did not make it daily. Later I may try it, but it requires a lot of prepared topics in the waiting line, and that's what I don't have now.
Today's topic is relationships and we are working with that prefab advice-series with which we began before.

#1 Make new friends

Haha, funny, I even don’t get on with the old ones.
Let me elaborate on this: all my life was a struggle to make friends. All the stages had their own problems with this field – as a little kid I had a lot of pet peeves and I graded people according to the fact do they like cats or not (if they don’t like, they are suspect), as an adolescent I also had some hobbies to hyper fixate to and I really hated that people also wanted to grade me, like according to my vocab (schmock kid - I had huge vocab and I made the mother of mistakes: I used it as well, all the time) or my clothing style, what was my mothers’ in the 80% of the time. So I never had real, dependable friendships. Until the high-school, where I met Zosia (she is Hungarian just like me, I gave her a Polish name for unknown reasons) and we were best friends for five years, in hindsight in a little too closed-in way. Now she has kids, sometimes we chat but I saw her last time at our wedding with my husband in 2018. I didn’t even go to theirs, and I have a puff of guilty for this too. I think, I was way too much for her and now she cannot handle that I am not that paranoid-ish, always perseverating, overly protective chick anymore. But then who?
I have this same thing to her other BFF, with whom we also had friendship-like stuff – we were going out a lot together when I found out that dancing can be fun too (I knew it before, but I liked traditional dances more, because my faves, the Balkani ones have very few dances in pairs and a lot of them in rows or circles).
So this is basically two goals. No, three: make new friends, new friendships with the old ones and a new one with yourself.

#2 Fall in love

In my case the fact I have a long-term relationship with my husband, but I don’t set this as a norm, but as a possible way (so I won’t ostracize other people for their relationships, especially if they don’t harm anybody else).
Now I am listening to IRIAO, a Georgian ethno-jazz band – their approach is the exact definition of this love all around, and I can find this kind of energy in multiple other Georgian bands’ and artists’ work as well. Why Georgia? I could say Armenia too. Or basically any other country, I don’t aim to be a hypocrite or an uncritical fan of a country or cultural notion, or fall for cultural appropriation, even though with a positive attempt. But Georgian ethno-jazz definitely has this special energy.

#3 Go to therapy

…check.
In our cultural environment therapy has an ambivalent sounding – nowadays it slowly drifts toward acceptable, but a lot of people think that it is for severely injured or neurologically ill people, and so if someone goes to therapy, then they must have some big issues, they are not responsible and so on.
I am going to – more or less effective – therapies from my childhood. I saw a therapist for the first time as I began school and had issues with anxiety, stress management, and behavior around people. Of course, therapy isn’t that effective if someone is taken to therapy – nowadays I have my therapist to go to every now and then and talk life’s big questions. I found him, I stick to him because he places very good questions - he has very good timing for it - and I like to talk with (or in some cases to) him. So this works, and I don’t feel that it substitutes anything. I know myself well, if I had more friends, I wouldn't want to burden them with these existential questions, and such horseshitty looking subjects what comes into my mind when I go to therapy.
