tl;dr: Literally. I planted two crypto trees.
There’s a story in the Talmud about a man named Honi.
“One day Honi was journeying on the road and he saw a man planting a carob tree.
He asked, “How long does it take [for this tree] to bear fruit?”
The man replied: “Seventy years.”
Honi then further asked him: “Are you certain that you will live another seventy years?”
The man replied: “I found [already grown] carob trees in the world; as my forefathers planted those for me so I too plant these for my children.”
Over the past few years, we’ve had to cut down a few trees in our yard. We’re blessed to live in a tree heavy area, but I still felt bad about being “tree negative” on our property.
It took a while, but I finally decided to plant some new ones, after a friend of mine did the same.
In addition to a lot of trees, we also have a ton of deer and planting anything requires a “deer defense strategy.”
There are, apparently, some trees that deer won’t eat, so in the name of simplicity, I decided to use that as a filter-instead of building an elaborate fence or guard mechanism.
The two trees?
Cryptomeria Yoshino and Cryptomeria Radicans which are both forms of Japanese cedars– particularly cool for me since I lived in Japan for 2 years and my son’s name, in English, is “cedar tree.”
But even cooler, of course, was that these were “crypto” trees. I knew these were the tree for us.
May these trees grow in great health along with the cryptoeconomies of the crypto futura.
