Everything I wanted and more
Regardless of how “cool” it seems to hate J.K. Rowling and all she does, this game is quite epic. Lots of Wizarding World lore and references to places & things mentioned within the Harry Potter books.
Stuff not even seen in the movies! Which was an awesome bonus if you ask me.
Even the gamer side of the coin is immensely great. Loads of side quests to keep you busy and the wand/spell combat system has a nice flow to it once you’ve had some practice. Also “magical” in a way.
Sure, there’s lots of hysterical glitches even after the latest patch (as of writing this article). My clothes seems to want to occasionally rip themselves and escape into another reality. Even then, the immersion and nostalgia factor is quite real if you grew up reading/watching Harry Potter.
The developers purposefully made this game for you to “get lost” in. To check out Hogwarts, go to different classes, stroll around Hogsmeade, and fly on your broom to other lesser-known nearby places in that area of Scotland. If the goal was to make you feel like you actually were a student at Hogwarts, they nailed it.
Then there’s the fully-customizable Room Of Requirement that expands throughout the game as you acquire new skills like capturing beasts. Thus, giving a nod to the Fantastic Beasts saga as well. You’ll probably spend a long time in here if you like to customize things or really liked setting up houses in The Sims.
If that wasn’t enough, you also have specific “relationship” side quests. These specific quests are where you can choose to help out your friends with various things. Some of them giving you access to certain well-known spells… and curses…
All in all, ‘tis a great game. Even if you don’t turn to page 394. Or even open the book for that matter. The choice, like other choices in this game, is yours.
