With 391.6mm of rain falling in 4 days, the Australian city of Sydney has been hit by some of the heaviest rains in about 30 years. While the files extinguished two of the largest and most threatening bushfires that have desecrated parts of New South Wales, it is also brought flooding, leaving about 100,000 homes without power and forcing thousands to evacuate. Several people were also injured in the floods, though no deaths have been reported yet.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology warned that the fire-burnt regions could be particularly vulnerable to flooding, and fast-moving waters can carry large amounts of debris. Some authorities recommended those living in low areas to temporarily evacuate their homes and seek higher ground.
On the other hand, the massive rainfall also replenished water supplies in the drought-struck. The Warragamba Dam which supplies most of Sydney's water was at about 42% capacity prior to the rains, but is now about 70% full.
