After following through its pledge to deliver 335 million United States dollars to compensate American victims of the 1998 bombing of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania organized by al-Qaeda while leader Osama bin Laden was living in Sudan, United States President Donald J. Trump announced that Sudan will be removed from the US Terror List. Following the announcement, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok thanked the American President for signing the executive order, and stated that he hoped to complete the process in "a timely manner". The removal of the terror designation will allow Sudan to receive international loans and aid while building new international ties.

US President Trump also said that as part of US-brokered deals, Sudan will become the third Arab state to normalize ties with Israel. While the latest move was met by praise from some, others accuse the United States of America and Sudan for "betraying" Palestine and its people.

According to several local American media organizations, a US official said that Sudan borrowed the money to compensate American victims of the bombings. Additionally, Sudan has agreed to designate Lebanon's Hezbollah movement as a terrorist organization.
