Meridian Flight 3032 crashed into fields near Kavala, Greece, resulting in the deaths of all 8 Ukrainian nationals onboard the aircraft. The Soviet-era Antonov An-12BK cargo plane was carrying nearly 11 tonnes of munitions from Niš, Serbia, to Dhaka, Bangladesh, when the pilot reportedly requested an emergency landing at the Kavala International Airport due to an engine problem. The aircraft never made it to the airport, and residents reported seeing the aircraft crash and explode about 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of the airport at about 22:45 local time. Local media outlets say that witnesses reported that the aircraft was already on fire before crashing, and that explosions could be heard for about 2 hours after the crash.

After the crash, people living within 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) of the site were advised to stay indoors and close windows until authorities deem the area safe. As of now, the cause of the crash is still under investigation, though explosives disposal specialists and detectives are on the scene of the crash. Emergency teams initially used drones to survey the crash site due to fears of burning explosives and toxic fumes.

Serbia's Defence Minister Nebojša Stefanovic alongside other officials reported that the aircraft was transporting Serbian-made weapons including "illuminating mortar mines" to Bangladesh. Mr. Stefanovic also said that the flight "had all necessary permissions in accordance with international regulations". The aircraft was scheduled to make stops at Jordan, Saudi Arabia and India before reaching its final destination.
