As total confirmed Covid-19 coronavirus cases surge past 1 million nation-wide, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson proposes a new month-long lockdown for England beginning on Thursday November 5th, 2020, and ending on December 2nd, 2020. The Prime Minister warned that without tough action, the second wave of the viral outbreak could overwhelm medical resources and hospitals in weeks, leading to thousands of deaths. Prime Minister Johnson's lockdown proposal is scheduled to be voted on in Parliament on Wednesday November 4th, 2020, and will only apply to England.

Under the new restrictions, bars and restaurants may once again only offer takeout, non-essential stores must close, and people in England may only leave home for a short list of reasons such as shopping for essential goods or exercising. Activities such as haircuts and watching movies must once again be put on hold. In the other hand, unlike the previous lockdown order, this newly proposed lockdown will allow schools, universities, construction sites, and manufacturing businesses to stay open.

While Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, the primary opposition of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party, said that he is glad the government has "finally taken the decision that it should have taken weeks ago", some members of the Conservative Party warn of severe economic damages the proposed lockdown is expected to generate. According to local media, many business owners who are struggling to recover from the first lockdown say that the second lockdown could devastate their businesses, and result in another wave of unemployment.
