What are they hideing from the public

Governments of the world are starting to release information about the existence of aliens, but what's the real reason for this? I mean years of cover-ups and constant denials only to release videos and information to start new branches of the military. It seems to me like a staging of information to prepare the public for a huge revelation. Are we going to be invaded? Do we stand a chance at survival?
