"Ledger Secure", a Chrome extension steals Crypto from Ledger wallet. Some Security tips to keep your coins safe

Guys, I've now seen this somewhere on the news sites and couldn't find an article about it on Publish0x.

The "Ledger Secure" Chrome extension has proven to be a malware and is able to steal crypto from ledger wallets. It is mandatory if any one of you guys have it to remove it as soon as possible.

It is important to note that this extension is not affiliated in any way with the Ledger company.

A guy lost about 600 ZEC, worth about $16000 at the time by just keeping the Extension installed. The assets were located in his ledger wallet...

After that the coins were transferred to 2 different wallets associated with an Exchange.

This is an important lesson that we should always remember. Do not use any software from "Unknown Publisher" to deal with your crypto storage.

Also, something else that gets ignored very often by people, when opening a website like an Exchange or a wallet, always, always check of the Website is "Secure".

You can do that by pressing the lock next to the link in the address bar:

If this is missing, it is very very likely that you are going to provide your credentials to a website where someone is looking to steal your login information.

Another tip for securing your account is Always use 2FA (2 Factor Authentication). This is mandatory on most websites, but in case you are using some that is not, but has this option, you should really consider to enable it.

One more thing - avoid keeping any funds long therm at a place where you do not have the Private keys. Exchanges, some kind of wallets where you do not have the keys.

That said I have 3 examples for you:

1) Blockchain wallet - You write your keys and if necessary you can import them in a different wallet.

2) Atomic wallet, amazing software, you have they keys for every single crypto you hold and can do whatever you want.

3) Freewallet -> Do not use. There is no option to obtain the keys... literally you do not own anything of that crypto while it is in their wallet.

I really hope that this will help someone.
