In February, Amazon sent me an invite to join their Vine Program. If you aren't familiar, the gist is this: Amazon posts a massive list of items that "Viners" can request for free in exchange for an honest review.
Truthfully? A lot of it is stuff no one wants—think endless rows of random carburetors and cake toppers. But Amazon builds a profile based on your purchases to recommend things you actually need. It’s not perfect, but it’s figured out I have a pool. It doesn't know if it’s in-ground or a hot tub, but it's close enough!
The other evening, a $93 pool robot popped up in my "Recommended for You" section. In the Vine program, items are taxable income (you get a 1099 at the end of the year), so my "calculus" was simple: Do I want to potentially pay $27 in taxes on what might be a piece of junk?
I took the risk. My expectations were near zero. I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised.
The Test Run
Straight out of the box, I plugged it in overnight to get it charged and then dropped it into the pool the next morning. While I didn't set a stopwatch, it ran for roughly two hours, which perfectly matches the manufacturer’s claimed battery life (they claimed three hours.)

The Verdict: Performance
When the cycle finished, I fished it out and unclipped the sides. It was chock-full of the pollen and leaves our trees are currently dumping into the pool. Even more impressive? I have young kids who constantly kick dirt and sand into the water—the machine managed to suck all that grit up to.
The "Catch" (Minor Criticisms)
It’s not perfect, but at this price point, these are "livable" flaws:
-
The Filter Seal: The filter isn’t super tight. It could really use a gasket; as I was pulling it out of the water, I noticed some debris escaping back into the pool.
-
The Hook: The retrieval hook is a bit cumbersome. It takes a minute to get the hang of "fishing" the robot out of the deep end.
Final Thoughts
For under $100, I can easily look past those quirks. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to ditch the "old corded mess," this is a genuine Value Champion.

I’m currently working on building this as a faceless YouTube channel (Vine Tuning). I know this first attempt is a bit rough, so I’d love feedback! What programs or workflows are you all using to make these kinds of review videos better?
