I'm a third-year electrician apprentice.
There are some days that I go to work and I actually feel like an electrician: I'll replace a panel and get everything back up and running like it's supposed to be or I'll install a new service.
Those days are great! Those are the things that I really enjoy doing.
But most days I feel like a monkey pulling wire. I drill holes in joists and studs to push or pull wire. I pull wire into outlet or switch boxes. I make up said boxes. I install switches and receptacles and lights. I run low voltage wire for cable and internet. These things are incredibly monotonous.
I understand that the boring things are the ones that are most important. It doesn't matter if the panel is installed correctly if there is ground is touching a hot wire. It doesn't matter if the service is in if the ground and neutral on the dryer are reversed.
What makes you feel like a monkey pulling wire?
