Introduction
If you've been following Ethereum closely, you know that one of the big problems right now is scalability. The Arbitrum team is working on a solution to this problem called Optimistic Rollup.
Optimistic Rollup is a way of bundling large batches of transactions off-chain from Ethereum smart contracts and decentralized applications before submitting it to Ethereum. This can potentially improve Ethereum's scalability by a lot.
The Arbitrum team is made up of experienced developers who have been working on Ethereum scaling solutions for a long time. I'm excited to see what they come up with.
What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that utilizes Optimistic Rollup technology to bundle large batches of transactions off-chain from Ethereum smart contracts and decentralized applications before submitting it to Ethereum. This allows for much higher transaction throughput than what is possible on Ethereum today, without sacrificing the security or decentralization of the Ethereum network.
The Arbitrum protocol is based on a number of breakthroughs in the field of distributed systems and cryptography, including:
- Optimistic Rollup: A new type of data structure that allows for scalable, trustless computation.
- Fraud-proofs: A new type of cryptographic protocol that allows for trustless computation on Ethereum, without sacrificing security or decentralization.
Arbitrum Update: Newest Features and Improvements
Arbitrum, a scalable blockchain platform, has announced that it has successfully migrated its Arbitrum Rinkeby testnet to the Nitro model. The Nitro model is a new consensus protocol that is more scalable and efficient than the existing Proof-of-Work (PoW) protocol. This migration will allow Arbitrum to test the new protocol on a live network and provide feedback to the community.
According to the Offchain Labs GitHub account, Nitro will represent a "fully integrated, complete layer 2 optimistic rollup system" that builds on Arbitrum One with newly improved fraud proofs, updated sequencers, token bridges and calldata compression mechanisms.
We are confident that Nitro will help to further accelerate the adoption of Ethereum and other Layer 1 blockchains by offering a highly scalable and user-friendly solution for deploying and interacting with smart contracts.
Arbitrum, the layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, is currently ranked seventh among all chains at Defi Pulse with a total value locked (TVL) of $944,090,000. This puts it behind other competitor networks such as Optimism and Cronos, which have respective TVLs of $901.94 million and $894.32 million.
Arbitrum is a good solution, it helps Optimism Rollup teams adopt a proactive authentication solution. AVM is a smart solution, it helps Arbitrum run smoothly from the beginning to the present day.
As the Ethereum community continues to grow and evolve, we can expect to see more and more innovation in the space. Layer-two solutions are just one example of the exciting new developments that are on the horizon. With so much potential for growth, it's clear that Ethereum is here to stay.
