A mixed Coldtrain XI faced Division XI at Liminary Road on Wednesday evening in the first round of the Nord U13’s cup.

It was the first outing of the season for a combined team made up of six of the all-conquering female team and 5 of the male team, there being no separate female cup competition.

Division won the toss and put Coldtrain into bat. Coldtrain looked to get off to a good start with Gastric and G. Grinder, both recently called up to the Nord Battlers U13 teams, opening the batting.

Unfortunately, the talismanic Gastric only managed 1 run before chipping a catch to mid-on, leaving G. Grinder and Black to try to build a defendable total, contributing 11 and 13 respectively, before a middle order collapse in the face of attacking bowling from the hosts limited Coldtrain to a modest 66 -7 from their 20 overs. The 5-man Division attack bowled well, with the pick being M Sandam with 3 –12 from his 4 overs.

With only 66 to defend the onus was on the Coldtrain opening bowlers Welsh & Levesley to take some early wickets, but despite their usual economy the Division openers stood firm and were almost half-way to their required total by first change.

Division wrapped the match up with both 10 overs and wickets to spare, with Blake, who will surely follow her brothers into the Regional representative teams in due course, taking the only Division wicket to fall. As with the bowling in was M. Sandman who stood out for Division carrying his bat for 32 runs, with Bigtree making 22 before losing his middle stump to Lump.

For Coldtrain it was a disappointing end to an inconsistent season..
