The case against Coinbase by SEC to proceed, will not be dismissed.

Now, I myself had assumed the case would not have been dismissed. I mean, the case and what the SEC is trying to do against cryptocurrency in general is too important for it to not go to trial. I would have liked the case dismissed, as it seems that the SEC is overreaching, but that is just my opinion. I hope, and ultimately believe that my opinion will become fact or law once the case is decided. We will see.

What doesn't surprise me, but frustrates me is how the media portrayed this news. Here is an article about it from yesterday: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/27/sec-scores-big-win-in-lawsuit-against-crypto-exchange-coinbase.html It started with "SEC scores big win..."

Maybe it is a big win, it for sure is not great that the case was not dropped, but did we expect anything less with the significance of what is hanging in the balance?  Again, I did not. At the same time the SEC is alleging Coinbase and other crypto exchanges are selling unregistered securities, they approved the Bitcoin ETF. I am by no means a crypto expert, but again Bitcoin is not the only decentralized crypto, and some would say other cryptocurrency are more decentralized and would better fit a commodity than a security. The SEC is picking winners and losers, in my estimation backed by a lot of money and powerful people.

Only time will tell how this all plays out. I for one will admit I am wrong if the SEC wins the case, and that all cryptocurrencies are ultimately identified as securities except for the magical Bitcoin. I just don't I will have to.

Cryptocurrency is a fascinating idea, one that has many confused, scared and dismissive of the concept. However, it also is intriguing and likely a large part of the future.
