The news came out today that Kevin Warsh was sworn in to be the next Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. He succeeded Jerome Powell, who at least since President Donald Trump took over, has been controversial.
Here are my two cents, if Mr. Warsh is a proxy for the president, that will not end up being a positive thing. If he is independent, and guides the US Federal Reserve with respect and solid monetary policy, we all win.
We are at a pivotal time in the country, the US is seeking to stabilize multiple countries by removing the threat of nuclear war. Now, I write that not taking sides by either advocating for or against it. This is not the time and place to get into my opinions on it.
What I am looing for is whether they lower or raise interest rates. How loose do they play with historical ideas surrounding the role of the government, do they tighten lending through policy, or loosen it.
Here is a direct quote from Mr. Warsh speaking from the East Room of the White House after being sworn in, “I will lead a reform-oriented Federal Reserve, learning from past successes and mistakes, both escaping static frameworks and models and upholding clear standards of integrity and performance”
That quote is sure to get some riled up in both a negative or positive manner. We will see, hindsight is 20/20!
Here's to the future!
