My Japanese parents-in-law left behind this can of Suntory Highball, so you can rest assured that I would take advantage of this golden opportunity. Fun fact: do you know that Suntory Whisky is spelt without an “e”? That’s because it’s spelt similar to its Scottish (rather than its Irish or American counterpart). Anyway, the reason why I suddenly discuss whisky is that the highball cleverly combines Japanese whisky 🥃 and club soda. Perfect for the overworked parent who needs something strong to unwind and let go of the battle scars accumulated on that day - but not so strong that he isn’t able to do household chores or put his kids to sleep afterwards. Yes. I checked. The alcoholic composition is only 9%. It’s potent, yet light, a liquor mix of yin and yang, if you will.

To bring further sensations to my discerning taste buds, I drank the highball with the quintessential Singaporean favourite snack - salted egg chips. I quite liked how the salty and savoury chips contrasted nicely with the robust highball, but my wife condemned my Michelin star-worthy pairing, saying that the favours didn’t match. So tuck into salted egg chips while savouring Suntory Highball at your own risk!
